(1) The result of measurement 1 was significantly higher than 2 – 6. Measurements 2 – 6 were within 0.5 mN/m. The mean surface tension was, therefore, calculated from measurements 2 to 6, after equilibrium was reached.

(2) Multiplied by the calibration factor. A correction according to Harkins-Jordan was not required.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
In a GLP-compliant study in accordance with EC A.5 and OECD 115 using the OECD harmonized ring method, the surface tension at 20°C of a 1 g/L aqueous solution of Phthalyl-L-Glu has been determined as 72.4 mN/m. Phthalyl-L-Glu is not surface active according to the criterium in the EC A.5 guideline.
