Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

2-phenoxyethanol can be considered as hydrolytically stable with a half-life of >1 year

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The hydrolysis of 2-phenoxyethanol (purity 99.9%) was investigated according to OECD Guideline 111 (Bayer AG 2002). The test was performed at pH 4.0, 7.0 and 9.0 in sterile buffer solutions at a temperature of 50°C. After 5 days of incubation, the hydrolytical degradation was less than 10% of the initial concentration of 0.003 mol/L for all ready buffer systems and pH values (pH 9: borax/hydrochloric acid; pH 7: potassium dihydrogen phosphate/di-sodium hydrogen phosphate; pH 4: citric acid/potassium hydroxide/sodium chloride). Therefore, 2-phenoxyethanol can be considered as hydrolytically stable with a half-life of >1 year.
