Additional information

Styrene oxide is solely used under strictly controlled industrial conditions. The strictly controlled conditions used are always documented in detail at all industrial sites where styrene oxide is used. Therefore styrene oxide will not be released to the environment under normal conditions. Beyond that, styrene oxide is not stable in the environment. Styrene oxide present in atmosphere would be degraded in a few days by reaction with OH radicals. The atmospheric half life is 3.2 days. In surface waters and soil styrene oxide would be hydrolysed in18 h (pH 7) and 1.6 days (pH 9).
