Description of key information

The adsorption/desorption potential of the UVCB substance was determined using five soils in an OECD 106 study (key study).  The organic carbon-normalized partition coefficients of three representative components of the UVCB substance (o-TDA-3PO, o-TDA-5PO, o-TDA-8PO) were determined. The Koc values in five soils ranged from 3171 to 95329, from 3250 to 75429, and from 8368 to 147348 ml/g for o-TDA-3PO, o-TDA-5PO, and o-TDA-8PO, respectively.  The average Koc values across five soils were 40054 ml/g (logKoc of 4.60), 35972 ml/g (logKoc of 4.56), and 59682 ml/g (logKoc of 4.78) for o-TDA-3PO, o-TDA-5PO, and o-TDA-8PO respectively. The three components of the UVCB substance showed a comparable adsorption behavior related to a respective soil.  An overall weighted average Koc for the UVCB substance was calculated to be 41032 (logKoc of 4.61).  The overall weighted average Koc will be used for deriving PNEC values for soil and sediment compartment using equilibrium partitioning method. The results obtained from two supporting studies (QSAR method and HPLC method) were not used for chemical safety assessment because the results from a reliable experimental study take precedence over results from those two supporting studies.
