First-aid measures

Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Obtain medical attention.
Skin contact: Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water while removing all contaminated clothes and shoes. Obtain medical attention. Wash contaminated clothing before re-use.
Eye contact: In case of eye contact, remove contact lens and rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Obtain medical attention.
Ingestion: If conscious, drink plenty of water. Induce vomiting, but only if victim is fully conscious. Obtain medical attention.
Notes to physician
Symptoms: Additional 2-methoxyethanol may be formed by reaction with
moisture. 2-Methoxyethanol causes birth defects in laboratory
animals. Product may hydrolyze upon contact with body fluids
in the gastrointestinal tract to produce additional methanol;
therefore, consider the signs/symptoms of methanol poisoning
and also observe the known latency period of several days.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Alcohol-resistant foam, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Dry chemical
Special protective equipment for fire-fighters: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.
Further information: Do not direct a solid stream of water or foam into hot, burning pools: this may cause frothing and increase fire intensity. Cool closed containers exposed to fire with water spray.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions: Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Avoid contact with liquid and vapors. Use personal protective equipment.
Environmental precautions: Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system.
Methods for cleaning up: Soak up with inert absorbent material. Shovel into suitable container for disposal.

Handling and storage

Handling
Advice on safe handling: Do not swallow. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Avoid breathing vapor, aerosol and mist. Ensure adequate ventilation. Wash hands before breaks and immediately after handling the product.
Storage
Requirements for storage areas and containers: Keep container tightly closed. Keep away from heat and sources of ignition.
Specific use Recommendations: Not applicable

Stability and reactivity

Conditions to avoid : None known.
Materials to avoid : The following will cause product degradation:
Moisture. Avoid contact with: Strong oxidizing agents.
Hazardous decomposition products: Oxides of carbon.
Oxides of silicon.
Hazardous reactions : Compounding in EPDM Compositions: There have been
reports of explosions during the Banbury mixing cycle when A-
172 is compounded with EPDM. We refer to our Product
Bulletin on Silquest® A-172 silane for further information.

Disposal considerations

Product : Can be incinerated, when in compliance with local regulations.
Laboratory studies indicate that in highly dilute solution (ca. 10
ppm), this product may be biodegraded in a biological wastewater treatment
system.
Contaminated packaging : Dispose of as unused product.
