EC number: 265-191-7
CAS number: 64742-88-7
A complex combination of hydrocarbons obtained from the distillation of crude oil or natural gasoline. It consists predominantly of saturated hydrocarbons having carbon numbers predominantly in the range of C9 through C12 and boiling in the range of approximately 140°C to 220°C (284°F to 428°F).
The flash point is 29 - 70°C (CONCAWE 2010a)
The flash point of 29
-70 deg C for kerosine was obtained from Compilation of Selected
Physico-Chemical Properties of Petroleum Substances (CONCAWE, 2010). The
flash point was determined for various kerosine substances according to
the EN ISO 2719, 13736, and ASTM D 93-02a methods.
An additional flash
point range of 21 to 62°C for kerosines were obtained from the CONCAWE
1994 product dossier. Wide-cut jet fuels have a flash point of <21°C,
Jet Fuels A, A-1 and JP-8 are at 38°C, hydrodesulfurised kerosine and
JP-5 are at 60°C, and straight-run
kerosine is at 62°C.The
flash points were measured by the closed cup method.
