Description of key information

The effective concentration (EC50) value of 3-chloroaniline in aquatic green algae (Chlorella pyrenoidosa) in a 96 hr study on the basis of growth rate effect was found to be 21 mg/L. But the BCF value of 3-chloroaniline reported was not >= 500 as well as the substance was found to be rapidly degradable. Thus considering only the value from CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance , it is concluded that 3-chloroaniline exhibits toxicity to aquatic algae (Chlorella pyrenoidosa) in category 3.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
21 mg/L

Based on the studies summarized in the above table for the target substance 3-chloroaniline and the read across substance, the endpoint value was found to vary between EC50 = 0.74 mg/L to 53 mg/L in a 48 hrs. to 96 hrs. study on the basis of growth rate and population effect. Based on the EC50 values ranging from 21 mg/L to 53 mg/L,the substance qualify for the aquatic classification in Category 3.But EC50 value of read across substance was found to be 0.74 mg/L which exhibits toxicity in aquatic Acute Category 1.
