Description of key information
Additional information
Alchisor CAL 145 comprises alkenes C13-14 hydroformylation products, distn. residues with read-across from the chemically-similar Alchisor CAL 123 as defined in the Read-Across Justification Document (see Section 13 of IUCLID). Where environmental fate data exist for Alchisor CAL 123, these are representative of the Alchisor CAL 145 substance.
A reliable study (Klimisch score 1; Klimisch 2 when used for read-across) based on Alchisor CAL 123, GLP compliant OECD Guideline 301B (Ready Biodegradability: CO2 Evolution Test) showed that the test substance biodegraded to an extent of 87.7% after 28 days with an unacclimated sewage sludge inoculum. The test substance did not achieve 60% degradation with a 10-day window for ready biodegradability. As Alchisor CAL 123 is a mixture, the 10-day window test is not applicable as the only determination of ready biodegradability since different components of the mixture can degrade preferentially (OECD TG 103C). Therefore, Alchisor CAL 123 and Alchisor CAL 145 via read-across are considered "readily biodegradable" in water.
In Annex IX column 2 of the REACH Regulation, it says that a study on the "Biodegradation in Water and Sediment" and a study on "Biodegradation in soil" does not need to be conducted if the substance is "readily biodegradable". Therefore, a study on the "Biodegradation in Water and Sediment" and a study on "Biodegradation in soil" does not have to be conducted for Alkenes, C13-14, hydroformylation products, distn. residues.
