Description of key information

A hydrolysis as a function of pH was conducted on the analogue substance 2 moles ethoxylated bisphenol A dimethacrylate, EC 939-702-5, in accordance with the OECD 111 test guideline and GLP principles.

The hydrolysis of the test item was assessed in aqueous buffers pH 4, 7 and 9 at 50 ± 0.5°C (Tier I). Tier II tests were conducted at pH 4, 7 and 9, for which a significant loss of test item had occurred, at 15, 37 and 50°C.

The half-life of the test item at pH 4.0 and 25°C was determined to be 39.6 days (i.e. 950.9 hours).
The half-life of the test item at pH 7.0 and 25°C was determined to be 12.7 days (i.e. 304.2 hours).
The half-life of the test item at pH 9.0 and 25°C was determined to be 8.1 days (i.e. 194.0 hours).

The results indicate that hydrolysis takes place at a slow rate under environmental conditions, with a half-life over several days. For the chemical safety assessment, a half-life of 12.7 days (pH 7 at 25°C) was selected as a representative value.
