Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Titration with alkali gave a mean pKa of 9.56 at 21 °C with standard deviation 0.04 and coefficient of variation of 0.4% (n=3).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The dissociation constant measured in this study was not a true pKa of Bronopol since it degrades above pH 7.0 (Challis and Yousaf, 1991). The pKa measured was likely to be a composite pKa primarily associated with the initial decomposition product.
