Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VIII, the study does not need to be conducted since acetate is readily biodegradable. Acetate is used as reference compound in OECD guideline 301 (1992) on "Ready Biodegradability" in the form of sodium acetate to check the protocol. It meets the criteria of ready biodegradability (i.e. 70% removal of DOC and 60% of ThOD or ThCO2 production for respirometric methods within a 10-d window within the 28-d period of the test) even when an inoculum is not deliberately added.
