First-aid measures

Contact with skin:

- Immediately flush with large quantities of water. Remove contaminated clothing under a safety shower. Obtain medical attention if irritation occurs.

Contact with eyes:

- Immediately flush with large quantities of water for 15 minutes. Hold eyelids apart during irrigation to insure thorough flushing of the entire area of the eye and lids. Obtain medical attention if irritation occurs.

Swallowing:

- If victim is conscious, give 2 to 4 glasses of water and induce vomiting. Seek a medical examination immediately and present the safety-data sheet.

- A suspension of activated charcoal in water, or liquid paraffin may be administered.

Inhalation:

- Ventilate the premises. The patient is to be removed immediately from the contaminated premises and made to rest in a well ventilated area. Should the patient feel unwell, obtain medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishers:

- Water, CO2, Foam, Chemical powders, according to the materials involved in the fire.

Extinguishers not to be used: None in particular.

Risks arising from combustion:

- Avoid inhaling the fumes.

Protective equipment:

- Use protection for the respiratory tract.

FIRE & EXPLOSIVE HAZARDS: Heating to dryness may cause the release of oxides of sulfur.

Keep containers/storage vessels in fire area cooled with water spray. Heating may cause the release of oxides of sulfur.

FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT: As in any fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus, positive pressure type, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent) and full protective gear.

Accidental release measures

Small releases: Confine and absorb small releases on sand earth or other inert absorbent. Use water spray to dilute to weak fertilizer solution.

Large releases: Confine area to qualified personnel. Shut off release if safe to do so. Dike spill area to prevent runoff into sewers, drains or surface waterways. Recover as much of the solution as possible. Treat remaining material as a small release (above).

Handling and storage

Handling precautions:

- Avoid contact and inhalation of the vapours.

- Do not eat or drink while working.

Incompatible materials:

- Keep away from oxidising agents

- Keep away from acids.

Storage conditions:

- Store tote and smaller containers out of direct sunlight at moderate temperatures.

Instructions as regards storage premises:

- Adequately ventilated premises.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Precautionary measures:

- Give adequate ventilation to the premises where the product is stored and/or handled.

Respiratory protection:

- None generally required.

- Use respiratory protection where ventilation is insufficient or exposure is prolonged, e.g. CEN/FFP-2(S) or CEN/FFP-3(S).

Protection for hands:

- Use protective gloves that provides comprehensive protection, e.g. P.V.C., neoprene or rubber.

Eye protection:

- Use close fitting safety goggles and/or visor conforming to BS 2092 GRADE 1.

Protection for skin: No special precaution must be adopted for normal use.

Exposure limit(s) (ACGIH): None.

Stability and reactivity

Conditions to avoid: Stable under normal conditions.

Substances to avoid:

- acids

- oxidants

Hazardous decomposition products: toxic gases

Heating may cause the release of oxides of sulfur.

Disposal considerations

Recover if possible. In so doing, comply with the local and national regulations currently in force.
