Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The values of >75.7 and ≥75.7 mg S2O32-/L (72h-EC50 and 72h-EC10 respectively) were put forward for the environmental classification and effects assessment of thiosulfate substances.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
75.7
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
75.7

Additional information

One reliable study was identified for the evaluation of thiosulfate substances towards aquatic algae. ECT (2010) investigated the effects of ammonium thiosulfate ((NH4)2S2O3) on the growth rate of the green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata. A 72h-study was conducted, and the derived effects levels after a 72h-exposure period were considered for assessment purposes. No significant effects were noted at the highest test concentration of 100 mg test substance /L. The 72h-EC50 and 72h-EC10 values were >100 and ≥100 mg (NH4)2S2O3/L, which corresponds to >75.7 and ≥75.7 mg S2O32-/L, respectively (or >107.9 and ≥107.9 mg SO32-/L, respectively).

The values of >75.7 and ≥75.7 mg S2O32-/L (72h-EC50 and 72h-EC10 respectively) were put forward for the environmental classification and effects assessment of thiosulfate substances.
