Description of key information

Reliable (Klimisch 1 or 2) studies on adsorption have been conducted for DMDMH or the hydrolysis product of DMDMH, DMH, and available adsorption studies indicate that Koc value for DMDMH was <17.8 and ranged from 23.4 to 147 for DMH, with an average of 80.2. Therefore, DMDMH and the hydrolysis product are classified as having low potential (high mobility) for adsorption in soil or sewage sludge.

Reliable (Klimisch 1 or 2) studies on adsorption have been conducted for DMDMH or the hydrolysis product of DMDMH, DMH, and are considered relevant for environmental fate and ecotoxicology for inclusion this dossier.

 

Schmidt (1992) conducted a reliable (Klimisch 1) GLP compliant study following EPA 40 CFR 158.130 methods. A soil/sediment study adsorption-desorption study was conducted with aqueous solutions of 14C-DMH with four different soils (sand, sandy loam, and two clay loams of differing organic matter content) under dark conditions at a temperature of 25 ± 1°C. The Koc for all four soil types tested were 23.4 (clay loam), 61.9 (sandy loam), 88.3 (clay loam), and 147 (sand), with an average of 80.2; therefore DMH is considered to have high mobility in soil.

 

White and Mullee (2001) conducted a reliable (Klimisch 1) GLP compliant study following OECD 121 methods. The adsorption coefficient (Koc) for DMDMH conducted in soil/sewage sludge was determined to be <17.8, log10 Koc <1.25.
