Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The measured vapour pressure of BBP is 0.001 Pa at 25°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In the key study for this endpoint (Howard et al, 1985) the measured value for the vapour pressure of BBP was found to be 1.1 x 10⁻³ Pa (0.001 Pa) at 25 °C. The peer-reviewed European Union Risk Assessment Report for BBP used this as one of its key studies for this endpoint, together with Hoyer and Peperle 1957 which we have been unable to obtain. The EU RAR states that these are the only two scientific studies available and, since both are in accord, the value of 0.0012 Pa was chosen in the RAR as representative. The peer-reviewed International Chemical Safety Card for BBP states that the vapour pressure of BBP is 'negligible'. Although this statement is insufficient for regulatory purposes, it nevertheless supports the findings of Howard et al, 1985, and the EU RAR.
