Additional information

To assesses the biodegradability of bronopol discharged in wastewater a GLP compliant simulation study was conducted according to OECD guideline 314B [BASF SE 2012]. The outcomes of this study showed that 0.5 mg/L [14C]bronopol is degraded to 99% within 1 hour in municipal activated sludge forming tris(hydroxymethyl)-nitromethane as a major transient metabolite. The average time for loss of 50 % of [14C]Bronopol (DT50 value) was approximately 8.3 minutes while 50 % CO2 production occurred at approximately 65 hours.
