Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Test in animals showed that the test substance has a very low toxicity and no bioaccumulative properties.

Reactive Black 5 is rapidly hydrolysed with a half-life of 1 to 2 days at pH 7. When the test substance was applied to a sediment/water test system at a final concentration of 1 mg/kg in the test system, the test substance was rapidly degraded. The DT50 of the test substance was 2 days. After 3 to 6 days, only 10% of the applied the test substance could be found. All metabolites decreased at the end of the test period to levels around the lower level of quantification. Consequently, an accumulation of metabolites could be excluded. The majority of the metabolites of the test substance was deposited in form of non-extractable residues in sediment during test phase. After about 1 month, mineralization of the metabolites started.

Based on this data and the intended uses of the test substance, any exposure of terrestrial organisms to the test substance can be excluded. Tests in terrestrial organisms were therefore considered as scientifically unjustified.
