Description of key information

The mean measured octanol-water partition coefficient (log Pow) of BBP is 4.84.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
4.84
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Measured log Pow values for BBP were obtained from our key studies (Leyder and Boulanger, 1983, and Gledhill et al, 1985) and supported by data from the International Chemical Safety Card for BBP. Leyder and Boulanger was a guideline study which determined a log Pow of 4.91 at 20 °C. The value given in Gledhill et al was log Pow 4.77 (this is also the value given in the International Chemical Safety Card for BBP) although there is no data on temperature. For the purposes of this assessment, the mean of these two values (log Pow 4.84) is considered to be representative. This value was also used in the EU Risk Assessment Report for BBP.
