Description of key information

The melting point of Thiourea determined by differential scanning calorimetry is 178.3 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
178 °C

Additional information

According the Ullmann`s Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry Thiourea has no sharp melting point, as it rearranges relatively rapidly to NH4SCN from 135°C; on rapid heating a melting point of 180°C has been determined. According the CRC Handbook for Chemistry and Physics the melting point of Thiourea is ca.176°C.

The melting point of Thiourea determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is 178.3 °C. As this value represents the only direct experimental result and is considered reliable, this value is carried forward in the risk assessment.
