First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

Immediately remove contaminated clothing. If danger of loss of consciousness, place patient in recovery position and transport accordingly.

Apply artificial respiration if necessary. First aid personnel should pay attention to their own safety.

If inhaled: Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention.

On skin contact: Immediately wash thoroughly with soap and water, seek medical attention.

On contact with eyes: Immediately wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open, consult an eye specialist.

On ingestion: Rinse mouth and then drink 200-300 ml of water. Do not induce vomiting. Immediate medical attention required.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Hazards: When inhaled (e.g. during vomiting) risk of pulmonary oedema and/or pneumonia.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Treatment: Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions), no known specific antidote. The contamination by the substance may be ascertained by determining the content in the blood and/or urine.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media: foam, water spray, carbon dioxide, dry powder

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Formation of further decomposition and oxidation products depends upon the fire conditions.

Advice for fire-fighters

Further information: Keep containers cool by spraying with water if exposed to fire.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Ensure adequate ventilation. Sources of ignition should be kept well clear.

Environmental precautions

Do not empty into drains.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

For large amounts: Pump off product.

For residues: Pick up with suitable absorbent material.

Dispose of absorbed material in accordance with regulations.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Keep container tightly sealed. Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work areas.

Protection against fire and explosion:

Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Vapours may form explosive mixture with air. Vapours are heavier than air.

Temperature class: T2 (Autoignition temperature >300 °C).

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Further information on storage conditions: Containers should be stored tightly sealed in a dry place.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection: Self-contained breathing apparatus. Gas filter for gases/vapours of organic compounds (boiling point >65 °C, e. g. EN 14387 Type A)

Hand protection: Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN 374)

Suitable materials also with prolonged, direct contact (Recommended: Protective index 6, corresponding > 480 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374): Manufacturer's directions for use should be observed because of great diversity of types.

Eye protection: Tightly fitting safety goggles (splash goggles) (e.g. EN 166)

Body protection: Low flammability, oil resistant protective clothing (e.g. in accordance with EN 465), See user defined text.

General safety and hygiene measures: Avoid inhalation of vapour. No eating, drinking, smoking or tobacco use at the place of work.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity: Vapours may form explosive mixture with air.

Chemical stability: The product is stable if stored and handled as prescribed/indicated.

Possibility of hazardous reactions: Evolution of flammable gases/vapours.

Conditions to avoid: Avoid all sources of ignition: heat, sparks, open flame. Protect from sunlight.

Incompatible materials

Substances to avoid: oxidizing agents

Hazardous decomposition products: No hazardous decomposition products if stored and handled as prescribed/indicated.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Must be disposed of or incinerated in accordance with local regulations.

Contaminated packaging should be emptied as far as possible; then it can be passed on for recycling after being thoroughly cleaned.
