Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Pitch, coal tar, high-temp. as such does not exhibit acute toxicity to aquatic microbial lifeforms. Hence no EC50 is determinable. As worst case, creosote is used as supporting substance in order to obtain a value that characterises toxicity to aquatic microorganisms.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
36 mg/L

Additional information

For reasons of deriving a PNEC for STP, the impact of creosote on activated sludge was adopted as surrogate for mixed aromatic compounds and PAHs: the EC0 was found to be 36 mg/l (nominal).
