First-aid measures

Inhalation : Remove patient from exposure, keep warm and at rest. Obtain medical attention if ill effects occur.

Skin contact : Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Wash immediately with tepid or cold water followed by soap and water. Obtain medical attention. Contaminated clothing should be laundered before re-issue.

Eye contact : SPEED IS ESSENTIAL. OBTAIN IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION. Immediately irrigate with eyewash solution or clean water, holding the eyelids apart, for at least 15 minutes. Continue irrigation until medical attention can be obtained.

Ingestion : Provided the patient is conscious, wash out mouth with water and give 200-300 ml (half a pint) of water to drink. Do not induce vomiting. Obtain medical attention.

Notes to physician

Treatment : Symptomatic treatment and supportive therapy as indicated.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media : water spray, foam, dry powder or CO2.

Specific hazards during fire fighting : Not classed as flammable. If involved in a fire, it may emit noxious and toxic fumes.

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters : Full protective equipment including suitable respiratory protection.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions : Ensure suitable personal protection (including respiratory protection) during removal of spillages. Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection. Contaminated clothing should be laundered before re-issue. Protect against dust. Skin contact MUST be avoided. Avoid contact with eyes.

Environmental precautions : Do not allow to enter drains, sewers or watercourses. Spillages or uncontrolled discharges into watercourses must be alerted to the appropriate regulatory body.

Methods for cleaning up : Avoid dust generation. Damp down. Clear up spillages. Transfer to a container for disposal. Seal the container and dispose of in accordance with local, state or national legislation. Wash the spillage area clean with a further 10% sodium metabisulphite solution followed by copious amounts of clean water. Flush to a chemical or municipal sewage system.

Handling and storage

Handling

Advice on safe handling: Skin contact MUST be avoided. Avoid contact with eyes. Control dust formation. Provide adequate ventilation to ensure that the defined occupational exposure limit is not exceeded.

Storage

Requirements for storage areas and containers: Keep only in the original container. Keep container tightly closed. Keep away from oxidising agents, acids, reducing agents. opriate containment to avoid environmental contamination.

Reactivity towards container material:

Reactivity to Container Material

Williams T.M.; 1996; Purified PROXEL Press Paste: Physical Chemical Data  Package. Analytical Sciences Group Project 267

No corrosion was observed for aluminium, carbon steel, stainless steel  304, stainless steel 316 or polypropylene.

A purplish deposit was observed on the surface of the carbon steel  samples and there was a small weight gain (mean value of 0.2% w/w). A  slight surface deposit was also observed on one of the aluminium test  samples, however no weight change was observed.  A weight gain of 0.2%  w/w was observed for one of the polypropylene samples.

Aluminium, carbon steel, stainless steel,  stainless steel 304, stainless  steel 316 and polypropylene samples were immersed in test substance (two  different batches of technical grade active substance were tested) for  four  weeks in the absence of light at 50 °C.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Components with workplace control parameters: No Occupational Exposure Limit Assigned.

Engineering measures

Where suitable engineering controls are not fitted or are inadequate, wear suitable protective equipment.

Personal protection equipment

Respiratory protection : Wear suitable respiratory protective equipment. An approved dust mask should be worn if exposure to high levels of dust are likely. Short term filter device. Filter P2

Hand protection : Wear suitable gloves. PVC gloves. Nitrile gloves. The selection of suitable gloves does not only depend on the material, but also on further marks of quality and varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. As the product is a preparation of several substances, the resistance of the glove material can not be calculated in advance and has therefore to be checked prior to the application.

The exact break through time has to be found out by the manufacturer of the protective gloves and has to be observed. Check protective gloves prior to each use for their proper condition.

Eye protection : Wear eye/face protection. Tightly sealed goggles.

Skin and body protection : Wear suitable protective clothing. Overalls.

Protective measures : Wash hands before breaks and at end of work. When using do not eat, drink or smoke. Protective clothing should be changed as necessary. Store protective clothing separately. Have an emergency eyewash and shower available in the immediate area.

Stability and reactivity

Materials to avoid : Can react with oxidising agents, acids, reducing agents.

Hazardous decomposition products : sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides

Disposal considerations

Disposal method : Do not empty into drains.

Disposal should be in accordance with local, state or national legislation. This material and/or its container must be disposed of as hazardous waste.
