Material may decompose after long exposure to high moisture level. May decompose when heated above 50 °C or involved in a fire.

Because fire may produce toxic thermal decomposition products, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with a full face-piece operated in pressure-demand or positive-pressure mode. Do not release runoff from fire control methods to sewers or waterways.

Appropriate engineering controls:
Provide general or local exhaust ventilation systems. Local exhaust ventilation is preferred because it prevents contaminant dispersion into the workarea by controlling it at its source. Make emergency eyewash stations, safety/quick-drench showers, and washing facilities available in work area.
Individual protection measures:
Eye/face protection:
Wear protective eyeglasses or chemical safety goggles, eye- and face-protection regulations. Contact lenses are not eye protective devices. Appropriate eye protection must be worn instead of, or in conjunction with contact lenses.
Skin/Hand protection:
Wear chemically protective gloves, boots, aprons, and gauntlets to prevent skin contact.
Respiratory protection:
Seek professional advice prior to respirator selection and use. Select respirator based on its suitability to provide adequate worker protection for given working conditions, level of airborne contamination, and presence of sufficient oxygen. For emergency or non-routine operations (cleaning spills, reactor vessels, or storage tanks), wear an SCBA. Warning! Air-purifying respirators do not protect workers in oxygendeficient atmospheres.
Thermal Hazards:
Thiourea dioxide may emit toxic fumes of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides when heated to decomposition.

Stability and reactivity
1. Reactivity
The product is reactive with the incompatible materials (please refer to point 5 "incompatible materials")
2. Chemical stability
Thiourea Dioxide may decompose on lengthy exposure to high temperature and humidity. Avoid heat, humidity and exposure to incompatibles.
3. Possibility of hazardous reactions
Hazardous polymerization cannot occur.
4. Conditions to avoid
Product reacts with water. Take precautions to avoid contact with atmospheric moisture and incompatibilities.
5. Incompatible materials
Strong oxidizing agents (alkalis, chlorates, nitrates, permanganates, etc.)
6. Hazardous decomposition products
Thermal oxidative decomposition of Thiourea Dioxide can produce toxic fumes of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen cyanide, nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides.
