Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The flash point of the substance is determined to be 11°C at 1013 hPa in a closed cup.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
11 °C

Additional information

Several reliable authoritative secondary sources reported the flash point of 1,4 -dioxane as result from experimental studies to be between 11°C and 18.3°C. Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry and GESTIS - Substance database of 'Berufsgenossenschaftlichen Instituts für Arbeitsschutz reports the flash point to be 11 °C at 1013 hPa. Lange's Handbook of Chemistry reported the flash point to be 12 °C and Hawley's Condensed Chemical Dictionary reported the flash oint to be 18.3 °C measured in a oppen cup.

In a worst case view the value from Ullmann's was chosen as key parameter for the flash point.  A flash point of 11°C is regarded to be reliable for 1,4 -dioxane.

The following classification criteria are met:

R11 (highly flammable) of EU Directive 67/548/EEC: flash point <= 21 °C and initial boiling point > 35 °C;

Flammable liquids, Category 2 (highly flammable liquids and vapour) of EU CLP: flash point <= 23 °C and initial boiling point > 35 °C
