Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Following inhalation: remove patient from exposure, keep warm and at rest. Obtain medical attention as a precaution.

Fire-fighting measures

Allow gas fires to burn until exhausted. Water spray should be used to cool containers.

Accidental release measures

Eliminate sources of ignition. Ventilate area. Isolate the leak as quickly as possible. Allow spillages to evaporate.

Handling and storage

Handling:

Keep away from sources of ignition – No Smoking.

Avoid contact of the liquid with skin and eyes. Do not breathe vapour. Wherever possible should be handled in high containment systems. Provide adequate ventilation including appropriate extraction.

Storage:

Keep in a cool, well-ventilated place. Keep away from heat, sources of ignition and direct sunlight. Keep away from polymerisation catalysts. Exclude oxygen and use an inhibitor to prevent polymerisation.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye-face protection.

Wear suitable respiratory protective equipment if exposure to levels above the occupational exposure limit is likely.

Occupational Exposure Limit: 2ppm (8 hr TWA) – ACGIH TLV

Stability and reactivity

Hazardous reactions:

Incompatible materials: polymerisation catalysts and peroxides, including peroxide generated at low temperature (e.g. by the ingress of atmospheric oxygen).

Exothermic reaction with substances capable of adding across a double bond (e.g. chlorine).

Can react violently if in contact with aluminium, copper, and their alloys especially if divided.

Hazardous Decomposition:

May decompose violently, even in the absence of air, into carbon and carbon tetrafluoride at pressures and temperatures in excess of 100kPa and 600°C. Such high temperatures can be achieved during uncontrolled exothermic reactions, including polymerisation, or initiated by contact with incompatible materials (see above) as well as by sparks or flames.

Disposal considerations

Disposal should be in accordance with local, state or national legislation.
