Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The following study has been submitted to address the hydrolysis endpoint:
Schilt, R., J. M. de Wolf, and D. van de Lagemaat (2005). Dibutyltin di-laurate (DBTL, CAS # 77-58-7): Solubility and hydrolysis. Testing laboratory: TNO Analytical Sciences, Zeist, The Netherlands. Report no.: TNO Study V6140. Report date: 2005-02-10.
The study has been allocated a Klimisch score of 2 and so is considered to be the key study for this endpoint.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life for hydrolysis:
1 h
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The hydrolysis half-life for dibutyltin dilaurate could not be determined. However, hydrolysis is concluded to initially occur rapidly but then an equilibrium between DBTL and DBT mono-laurate probably exists. DBT mono-laurate was detected in all samples. DBTO was not detected indicating that DBT without ligands was not formed in large quantities.
