Additional information

14C-labelled (2-ethoxy-1-methyl-2-oxoethyl)-5-[2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]-2-nitrobenzoate dissolved in water or in 10% v/v acetonitrile in water, was rapidly degraded (half-life 3.5 h) by artificial sunlight (mercury lamp emissions filtered through borosilicate glass). CO2 and a mixture of three unidentifiable, polar photoproducts, each up to 5 % of initial 14C activity, were generated indicating ultimate degradation of the test substance. 2 of the substances were strongly absorbed to the inner glass reactor surface. The half-life of (2-ethoxy-1-methyl-2-oxoethyl)-5-[2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]-2-nitrobenzoate was 66 h in sterile aquatic solution in sunlight at 41 ° latitude.
