Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when the substance is introduced in appropriately low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Data on the toxicity of vanadylhydrogenphosphate-hemihydrate (CAS no. 93280-40-1) to aquatic microorganisms are not available; therefore, a read-across approach to structurally similar pentavalent vanadium substances was performed.

A reliable guideline study was according to OECD 209 under GLP conditions (BASF, 1998; report no HUT005/973974). The short-term respiration inhibition test was performed with activated sludge from a sewage treatment plant receiving predominant municipal wastewater. The test item was the catalyst E-326 (CAS 65232-89-5). The 3-h EC20 for inhibition of the total respiration was greater than 100 mg/L (nominal), which is the highest tested concentration.

It can be concluded that the substance is acutely toxic to algae (based on the vanadium content).
