Description of key information

The text below is the summary from the WHO publication CICAD 'Concise International Chemical Assessment Document 29, VANADIUM PENTOXIDE AND OTHER INORGANIC VANADIUM COMPOUNDS, World Health Organization, Geneva, 2001

Pentavalent and tetravalent forms of vanadium have produced aneugenic effects in vitro in the presence and absence of metabolic activation. There is evidence that these forms of vanadium as well as trivalent vanadium can also produce DNA/chromosome damage in vitro, both positive and negative results having emerged from the available studies. The weight of evidence from the available data suggests that vanadium compounds do not produce gene mutations in standard in vitro tests in bacterial or mammalian cells.

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (negative)
