The explosivity of the substance was evaluated according to the EU Method A.14 (Explosive properties)..
The substance is not considered explosive under the conditions of the test Thermal Sensitivity (effect of a flame), Mechanical Sensitivity (shock) and Mechanical Sensitivity (friction).
Justification for classification or non-classification
According to the CLP Regulation 1272/2008, Annex I, section 2.1.2.1, Substances, mixtures and articles are classified as an unstable explosive on the basis of the results of the test methods described in Part I of the UN RTDG, Manual of Tests and Criteria. For the decision the Figure 2.1.2 shows the procedure for provisional acceptance of a substance, mixture or article in the class of explosives (Class 1 for transport).
As a matter of fact this endpoint is important for the trasnport safety, according to ADR, RID, IMDG, IATA. Acceptance prodedure includes several tests, Test Series 1 to 4.
Criteria for explosives
Unstable explosives or explosives of Divisions 1.1 to 1.6. For explosives of Divisions 1.1 to 1.6, the following are the core set of tests that need to be performed:
Explosibility: according to UN Test Series 2 (section 12 of the UN RTDG, Manual of Tests and Criteria). Intentional explosives shall not be subject to UN Test Series 2.
Sensitiveness: according to UN Test Series 3 (section 13 of the UN RTDG, Manual of Tests and Criteria).
Thermal stability: according to UN Test 3(c) (sub-section 13.6.1 of the UN RTDG, Manual of Tests and Criteria).
Test serie 1 (Is it an explosive substance?), Test serie 2 (Is the substance too insensitive for acceptance into this Class?), Test serie 3 (Is the substance thermally stable?) were performed on the substance.
The substance is not considered explosive under the conditions of the test:
Thermal Sensitivity (effect of a flame): the substance is not thermally sensitive.
Mechanical Sensitivity (shock): the substance is not shock sensitive.
Mechanical Sensitivity (friction): the substance is not sensitive to friction.
As conclusion, the substance should not be classified as explosive.
