- Six workers engaged in purification of the test substance experienced irritation, pain, lacrimation and disturbance of vision 8-12 hours after work. Eye examinations revealed conjunctival hyperemia, chemosis and desquamation of the corneal epithelium. Healing took 20-90 days. Two of the six workers developed a sore throat and four suffered bronchitis or bronchopneumonia.
