Description of key information

Nickel hydrogencitrate was not surface active.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The surface tension of Nickel hydrogencitrate was determined within a GLP study according to OECD 115.

Since the determined surface tension of Nickel hydrogencitrate is located in the range of 60 ± 2 mN/m, the test item should be regarded as in the borderline area of surface activity.

As the second measurement with a mean value of 61.93 mN/m was performed at 20.0 °C whereas the first one with a mean value of 59.84 mN/m had been made at 20.2 °C, it is stated that the second value should be followed when assessing surface activity of Nickel hydrogencitrate: all measurements at 20.0 and 20.1 °C showed values above 60.0 mN/m. So Nickel hydrogencitrate was classified as not surface active.
