Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Water Solubility (trimethoxy(2-methylpropyl)silane): 4900 mg/l at 20°C (QSAR)
Water Solubility ((2-methylpropyl)silanetriol): very soluble at 20°C (QSAR)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The requirement to test the substance for water solubility is waived on the basis that it hydrolyses rapidly to (2-methylpropyl)silanetriol and methanol. The water solubility of both the registered substance (4900 mg/l) and the silanol hydrolysis product (1 000 000 mg/l) have been calculated using a validated QSAR.

The silanol is predicted to be very soluble in water; however, silanetriols may undergo condensation reactions to give siloxane dimers, oligomers and polymers; this will limit its solubility in practice.

Methanol is miscible in water at 20°C based on experimental data (OECD 2004).
