Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Test animals

Species:
rat
Strain:
Wistar
Sex:
male/female
Details on test animals or test system and environmental conditions:
Male and female ten weeks of age were Initially segregated into equal weight distribution groups, but after exposure the animals were individually housed in hanging stainless cages. Animal room temperature was maintained at approximately 20 degrees C and the relative humidity was approx imately 55%.

Administration / exposure

Route of administration:
inhalation: vapour
Type of inhalation exposure:
whole body
Vehicle:
other: unchanged (no vehicle)
Details on inhalation exposure:
The test atmospheres were generated by flash vaporization of the test substance supplied to a heated 2 L glass flask. The test atmospheres were analyzed by a total hydrocarbon analyzer (Model No. 523) equipped with a flame ionization detector.
Analytical verification of test atmosphere concentrations:
yes
Remarks:
by total carbon analysis
Duration of exposure:
ca. 4 h
Concentrations:
2.3 mg/L (range 2.0 to 2.4 mg/L) and 2.6 mg/L (range 2.5 to 2.7 mg/L) vinyl neodecanoate.
No. of animals per sex per dose:
5 male and 5 female
Control animals:
no
Details on study design:
The animals were housed in two 5 litre tubular glass chambers fitted with stainless steel mesh carriers to accommodate five animals each. The test atmosphere was supplied to the chambers at a rate in the range 15.0 to 19.0 litres per minute. The chambers were located in a fume cupboard togethe with the atmosphere generator. Signs of toxicity were observed for 30 min continuously and then at 15 min intervals afterward. Rats were observed twice daily for the following 14 days. Rats surviving the experimental period were not submitted to post mortem examination.

Any other information on results incl. tables

During the exposure period the only sign of toxicity observed in some of the animals was piloerection. No other signs of intoxication were seen during either the exposure periods or the subsequent 14-d observation periods. No deaths occurred.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
practically nontoxic
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
Inhalation of Vinyl Neodeconate at the highest achievable vapor concentration of approximately 2.6 mg/L (78% saturated vapour concentration) was not toxic to rats.
Executive summary:

In an O.E.C.D. 403 Testing Guideline study two groups of 5 male and 5 female rats were exposued by inhalation to Vapor concentrations of Vinyl Neodecanoate of approximately 2.3 mg/L and 2.6 mg/L for four hours. During the exposure period the only adverse clinical observed in some of the animals was piloerection. No mortalities occured. Therefore, the acute 4 -hr inhalation LC50 value for Vinyl Neodecanoate is > 2.6 mg/L.
