The following Aquatic toxicity PNECs were derived for Vinyl Neodecanoate based on the available study data:
The O.E.C.D. 203, GLP. Klimisch 1 rainbow trout study is condisered the most reliable and appropriate dataset for deriving a Fish PNEC value. The LC50 value from this study was 0.84 mg/L. Following ECHA guidance (RIP 3.2, Chapter R. 10) the derived Fresh water fish PNEC is 0.840 ug/L and the Marine fish PNEC is 0.084 ug/L.
O.E.C.D. 202 Testing Guideline GLP Klimisch 1 studies were conducted with both the fresh water crustacea Daphnia magna and the marine copepod Acartic tonsa. Both studies had analytical verification of test substance concentration. The EC50 for the Daphnia magna study was 1.8 mg/L and the EC50 for the Acartic tonsa study was 0.30 mg/L. Based on ECHA guidance (RIP 3.2, Chapter R. 10) the PNEC for fresh water crustacea is 1.8 ug/L and the PNEC for marine crustacea is 0.030 ug/L.
The Klimisch 1 acute 72 hr algal study conducted according to O.E.C.D. Testing Guideline 201 with GLP compliance and test substance concetration analytical determination is the most appropriate and reliable study on which to base an algal PNEC. The EC50 value for this study was 3.4 mg/L. Following ECHA guidance (RIP 3.2, Chapter R. 10) the Fresh water algae PNEC is 3.4 ug/L and the marine algae PNEC is 0.34 ug/L.
Based on the derived PNECs for the three tropic levels, the PNEC of 0.42 ug/l is believed to be protective of fresh water organisms and the PNEC of 0.030 ug/L is considerd to be protective of marine organisms.
Vinyl neodecanoate was assessed for its potential inhibitory effect upon activated sewage sludge in an O.E.C.D. 209 Testing Guideline study conducted under the GLP regulations. The EC50 value for vinyl neodecanoate was > 500 mg/L demonstrating that the test substance is not inhibitory to a sample of activated sewage sludge under the conditions of the study. Therefore the PNEC stp is > 500 mg/L.
