Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Eye and skin contact:
Eyes: Rinse with plenty of water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if easily possible. Refer for medical attention.
Skin: Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention if skin irritation occurs.
Inhalation:
Move to fresh air. Refer for medical attention.
Ingestion:
Rinse mouth. Refer for medical attention. Do not induce vomiting.
Keep the affected person at rest and maintain normal body temperature. Obtain medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Fire and explosion hazard:
Highly flammable liquid. Can spontaneously lead to violent reaction. Gives off toxic and irritant fumes when heated or burning. Flash point below 23 deg C (- 53 deg C).
Fire prevention:
No open flames, No sparks, and No smoking.
In case of fire: keep drums, containers, etc cool by spraying with water.
Extinguishing media:
Water spray, foam, powder, carbon dioxide

Accidental release measures

Emergency Response in case of Spill and Leak:
Eliminate all ignition sources (no smoking, flares, sparks or flames in immediate area). All equipment used when handling the product must be grounded. Do not touch or walk through spilled material. Stop leak if you can do it without risk. Prevent entry into waterways, sewers, basements or confined areas. A vapor suppressing foam may be used to reduce vapors.
Absorb or cover with dry earth, sand or other non-combustible material and transfer to containers. Use clean non-sparking tools to collect absorbed material.
Do not wash away into sewer.

Handling and storage

Storage:
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated location. Outside or detached storage is preferred. Separate from oxidizing materials.
Protect containers against physical damage.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Engineering controls and work practices:
Should be sufficient to reduce exposures to the lowest level achievable.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Respiratory Protection: Respiratory protection should be used in accordance with company and applicable national regulatory requirements.
Respiratory protection should be used to supplement the engineering controls and work practices.
Persons should not be assigned to tasks requiring the use of respirators unless it has been determined they are physically able to perform the work and are trained to use the equipment.

Chemical Protective Clothing:
The level of protection selected should be based on the potential penta-1,3-diene concentration and likelihood of contact. It could range from no chemical protective clothes being required, such as when penta-1,3-diene is handled in closed systems and there is no personnel exposure, to fully encapsulating suits with supplied-air respirators in certain spill situations.
Eye and Face Protection:
If there is a potential that liquid penta-1,3-diene can come in contact with eye or skin, face shields and skin protective equipment must be provided and used.
Appropriate eye and face protection may be necessary to prevent contact with penta-1,3-diene.

Stability and reactivity

Penta-1,3-diene can react violently with strong oxidants. Can form peroxides which may initiate a polymerisation reaction.

Disposal considerations

Disposal
This substance, when discarded or disposed of, is a hazardous waste. The transportation, storage, treatment, and disposal of this waste material must be conducted in compliance with local regulations for hazardous wastes.
Disposal can occur only in properly permitted facilities. Check state and local regulation of any additional requirements for disposal conditions.
