Description of key information

GLP study according to EU Method A.6.(Flask method) at 20°C and 37°C.
Anaytical Development Physical Chemistry, Schering AG, Berlin, Study report A27069 (ADP 2005_066), dated 2005-04-15.
Results: S(20) = 9.8 mg/L; S(37) = 15.5 mg/L

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
9.8 mg/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The water solubility of progesterone was determined using the flask method at 20°C and 37°C to be:

S20 = 9.8 ± 0.8 mg/L

S37 = 15.5 ± 0.7 mg/L

Progesterone can be considered as practically insoluble in water in accordance with the descriptive term of Ph.Eur 5.1 and USP 23. The pH values of the saturated water solutions were determined to be 6.4 at 20°C and 6.5 at 37°C.

(According to X-ray powder diffraction the starting material and the insoluble residues from water consist of the same solid state form, polymorph I.)
