Additional information

In water, BPA-DA is not stable and hydrolyses quickly to form 4,4'-Bisphenol ATetra Acid (BPA-TA). BPA-TA is not sensitive to hydrolysis. Biotic degradation data show that no ultimate breakdown of BPA-DA occurs (i.e., no full mineralisation).

The relevant substance for the aquatic environment is thus BPA-TA and hence aquatic effects studies are performed on this primary hydrolysis product.

In air, a half-life of 8.062 h (at 12 -hour daylight) is calculated for BPA-DA based on reaction with hydroxyl radicals.
