Additional information

Ready biodegradability of Trimethylcyclohexanone (TMC-one) was determined according to OECD 301D (Closed Bottle Test) using freshly collected sewage from a predominately domestic sewage treatment plant (adaption not specified).

The test substance TMC-one showed 59 % degradation within 28 days. As the biodegradation did not reach 60% of the theoretical oxygen demand (ThOD) within a 10-d window the test substance is classified as not readily biodegradable. Nevertheless, significant biodegradation was observed.

Soil and sediment simulation testing for TMC-one are not required in accordance with REACH Annex IX, 9.2.1.3 and 9.2.1.4, column 1. A test is only required for substances with a high potential for adsorption to soil and sediment, respectively. Since the substance has a calculated Koc of 58.32 at 20 °C and a low octanol water partition coefficient (see IUCLID sections 5.4.1 and 4.7, respectively), it is expected to have a low potential for adsorption, and, therefore, no tests are required.

Simulation testing on ultimate degradation in surface water (Annex IX, 9.2.1.2) was not conducted according to Section 3 of REACH Annex XI, Substance-tailored exposure driven testing; simulation testing on ultimate degradation in surface water, information requirement 9.2.1.2 in Annex IX, may be omitted based on the exposure scenarios developed in the Chemical Safety Report. Justification and documentation will be provided in Chapter 9 based on a thorough and rigorous exposure assessment in accordance with REACH section 5 of Annex I.

The REACH-Dossier and CSR submitted in December 2010 contained a testing proposal for this endpoint. Due to technical reconstructions the manufacturing process will change to strictly controlled conditions (SCC). The reconstruction is finalized by the end of October 2011 fulfilling the pre-requisites for exposure based waiving according to Annex XI (3). The IUCLID dossier and CSR will be updated as soon as the SCC documentation is complete. Hence, a testing proposal is scientifically unjustified as the results of this test will not be available before the reconstruction is finalized - and not required afterwards.
