Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Additional information

Appearance

The substance is a clear colourless liquid with no reported odour.

Freezing Point

The freezing temperature of the test item has been determined to be less than -20°C (<253 K)

Boiling point

The test item has been determined to decompose from approximately 186°C (459K) at 99.8 to 101.9 kPa

Density

The density of the test item has been determined to be 856 kg/m3 at 20.0 ± 0.5°C, with a relative density of 0.856.

Vapour pressure

The vapour pressure was found to be 9.1E-03 Pa at 25 ºC and 1.5E-02 Pa at 70 ºC.

Octanol/water partition coefficient (log Pow)

The partition coefficient could not be determined using a procedure designed to be compatible with EC Method A8 and OECD Guideline No. 117 as the substance hydrolyses rapidly. A calculated estimate of the water solubility using WSKOW v 1.42 (US EPA) gave 2.8E-07 mg/L. The test item was shown to dissolve in n-octanol at approximately 5.0E05 mg/L (equivalent to 50% w/w). Using these values to estimate a partition coefficient value gave a log Pow of 12.3.

Water solubility

The water solubility of the test item at 20.0°C was determined to be 3.56E-02 g/L of the total organic cabon and 2.43E-03 g/L boron based on a nominal loading rate of 0.1 g/L. The water solubility of the test item could not be determined directly due to it being hydrolytically unstable in water.

Surface tension

The surface tension was not determined as the test item is known to be hydrolytically unstable (see water solubility).

Flash point

The flash point of the test item has been determined to be 178 ± 2°C.

Autoflammability

The test item has been determined to have an auto-ignition temperature of 258 ± 5 °C.

Flammability

The flash point of the test material has been determined to be 178°C. In accordance with CLP Regulation (EC) No 127/2008 the test material is not classified as flammable.

Explosivity

In accordance with column 2 of REACh Annex VII, the study does not need to be conducted if there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule. According to Directive 67/548/EEC (DSD) criteria (as described in the Manual of Decisions for implementation of the 6th and 7th amendments, 2006, §13.2.3), and according to Regulation (EC) N°1272/2008 (CLP) criteria and screening procedure (as listed in appendix 6 to the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods - Manual of Tests and Criteria (5th revised edition, 2009) or in the ECHA endpoint specific guidance on information requirements (R.7a, 2008, §R.7.1.11.3)), no reactive group was identified. Then explosive properties are not anticipated, and the acceptance procedure for Class 1 explosives shall not apply, no further testing is required. Moreover, according to CLP and UN criteria, no structural group associated with self-reactive properties is present, therefore subsequent classification shall not apply either.

Oxidising properties

The oxidizing properties of the substance are screened based on the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods (Orange Book, 3rd edition, 1999). Based on the UN Recommendation criteria the substance is considered to be non-oxidizing and therefore is not to be tested experimentally for the classification. Thus it can be concluded that the substance is not capable of causing fire or enhancing the risk of fire when in contact with combustible material.
