Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance does not contain metals or metalloids and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

Executive summary:

According to the German standard method "VDI 2263, Sheet 1" Solvent Red 52 has no self-heating properties.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2018
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:

Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria

Description of key information

In a test according to EU A.10 the substance did not burn. Solvent Red 52 melted when approached by the flame.

In a supporting study according to EU. A.17 the mixture of 90% Solvent Red 52 with 10 90% Cellulose did not ignite. The flame extinguished already in the start-up-length.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

a.) Flammability:

In a test according ot EU A.10 the substance did not burn. The test substance melted when approached by the flame.

In a test according to EU. A.17 the mixture of 90% Solvent Red 52 with 10 -90% Cellulose did not ignite. The flame extinguished already in the start-up-length.

b.) Pyrophoric properties: Solvent Red 52 did not deliver indications of pyrophoric properties during the realization of other tests. The determination according to UN-MTC Procedure N.2 is not necessary.

c.) Contact with water:The chemical structure of the substance contains no metals or metalloids. Testing according to UN-MTC*) procedure N.5 is not necessary with reference to Appendix 6, chapter 5.3..

d.) Self-heating substances: According to the German standard method "VDI 2263, Sheet 1" Solvent Red 52 has no self-heating properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Solvent Red 52 is a non-flammable solid, is not flammable in contact with water and does not exhibit pyrophoric or self heating properties.

Bases on the available information Solvent Red 52 is not classified for physical hazards according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP).
