study was performed to assess the ready biodegradability of the test
substance according to OECD 301D, in compliance with GLP. The substance
was weighed onto a glass fibre filter. The filter was then transferred
to individual BOD bottles to which test medium was added to achieve a
concentration of 2 mg/L. Since
the test substance was water insoluble, actual concentrations were
dependent on addition of neat test material to individual BOD bottles,
and ranged from 2.00 to 4.67 mg/L. The test substance was biodegraded to
62.6% after 28 d. Since
aniline, the positive control material, exceeded the pass level by
degrading to 92.2%, this test can be considered valid. Under
the study conditions, the test substance was considered to be readily
biodegradable (Lee C, 1992).
