Additional information

Acute tests on all three trophic levels were performed as well as a chronic test on aquatic invertebrates to examine the aquatic toxicity of 2-ethylhexanoic acid. Algae turned out to be the most sensitive species revealing an ErC50 (72h) of 49.3 mg/L. Effects of 2-ethylhexanoic acid towards daphnia were found in the same range providing an EC50 (48h) of 85.4 mg/L. Toxicity testing on fish revealed a low hazard potential indicated by a LC50 (96h) >100 mg/L. Hence, 2 -ethylhexanoic acid is acutely harmful to aquatic organisms. The NOEC regarding chronic effects on aquatic invertebrate Daphnia magna range between 18 mg/L and 25 mg/L after 21 days.
