Materials and methods

Principles of method if other than guideline:
4 cm³ of a 20 % solution of 3,4-dichlorphenyl isocyanate in dichloromethan were sprayed into a 400 l room. In this room 1 rabbit, 1 guinea pig, 2 rats and 4 mice were housed. After 1 hour the same concentration was sprayed again. After 2 hours the aminals were removed of the room. This experiment was repeated 5 times. A second test was conducted identically with the exception that only half of the concentration of the test substance was applied.

Any other information on results incl. tables

experiment 1: all animals revealed a strong irritation on mucous membranes and laboured breathing. During the experiment and the post-observation time of 10 days, the rabbit, the guinea pig and 2 mice died.

In the second experiment the symptoms were only weak. 1 out of 10 rats and 1 out of 20 mice died.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Executive summary:

result: During the experiments most of the animals died.
