Description of key information
The Maximum Acceptable Toxicant Concentration (MATC) for 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) in an early-life stage test on rainbow trout was determined to be 0.041 - 0.078 mg/l within 89 days. The concentration of 0.078 mg/l was reported as LOEC and 0.041 mg/l as NOEC (CMA, 1989).

There is no direct data available regarding the chronic effect of MBS on fish. As hydrolysis product of MBS, MBT has a long-term study available for fish and hence a read-across approach is used to support the toxicity discussion regarding MBS.
