First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Not known to be a direct inhalation hazard, but should be handled as if hazardous. If dust is inhaled, move to fresh
air. Give artificial respiriation if breathing has stopped. If there are signs of discomfort, seek medical advice. Show
copy of safety data sheet or label to medical staff.


(Note: if in contact with dust, ensure that eyes and skin
are suitably cleaned as appropriate)
Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse immediately with large volumes of water for 10 - 15
minutes. Seek medical attention. Show copy of safety data
sheet or label to the medical staff.


Remove contact lenses if worn.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with water and mild soap or detergent. If signs of
discomfort, seek medical attention. Remove contaminated
clothing and wash thoroughly before re-use.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: If subject is conscious, rinse mouth thoroughly and then
drink plenty of water. If signs of discomfort, seek medical
advice. Show copy of safety data sheet or label to medical
staff.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Dry foam, powder, water spray, carbon dioxide and other extinguishing agents. No adverse reaction with normal
extinguishing agents is known.

Product arising from burning: Complete combustion will lead to the formation of oxides of
carbon and nitrogen, chlorine compounds and water. Reduced
forms of these oxides (eg. carbon monoxide) may result from
combustion in enclosed spaces. Other possible combustion
products following incomplete oxidation may include nitrous
acids and hydrogen chloride.

Protective equipment: Full protective equipment including self-contained breathing
apparatus, suitable gloves, goggles and face protection must
be worn.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Collect material while minimising dust generation (through use of damp mop or other cleaning equipment), place in suitable, labelled container and dispose of as hazardous waste in accordance with local regulations. Residues and minor spills may be washed with water, avoiding run-off into
water courses.


PPE including respirator, suitable gloves and eye protection
should be worn.

Handling and storage

Handling: As the substance exists in a dry form, precautions should be taken to reduce the possibility of dust formation. Suitable ventilation should be applied to the working area. When physical or engineering controls are not sufficient to control dust exposure, approved respiratory equipment to EN136 standard should be worn. For manufacturing areas, personal protective equipment in the form of approved goggles, coveralls, gowns or other impervious material together with neoprene, rubber or other suitable gloves which are impervious to the processing materials should be worn. Storage: Store dry under ambient conditions in sealed, upright fibre drums and ensure containers are correctly labelled. Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Packed in fibre drums, 34 kg maximum, UN approved.

Exposure controls / personal protection

When physical or engineering controls are not sufficient to
control dust exposure, approved respiratory equipment to
EN136 standard should be worn. For manufacturing areas,
personal protective equipment in the form of approved
goggles, coveralls, gowns or other impervious material
together with neoprene, rubber or other suitable gloves
which are impervious to the processing materials should be
worn.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Avoid contact with strong oxidising and reducing agents.

Chemical reaction with water: There is not considered to be any adverse reaction with
water.

Dust explosion: The substance was tested to be a combustible dust with a
class ST-2 explosion strength (ASTME 1226 method). As with
most organic materials, a suspended dust cloud of this
substance may ignite if subjected to a strong ignition
source or high voltage.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance is consumed during use and there is no
opportunity for recovery or recycling.

Waste solvent from production is sent for recovery.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: No method of neutralisation is known. If in aqueous
solution, raising the pH will reduce the potentially irritant properties of the substance due th low pH.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Trace quantities are destroyed by biological oxidation in
waste water treatment plants.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: This is the recommended method of destruction, especially
for large quantities. Closed system incinerators with scrubbers should be used in compliance with local and
national regulations.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Trace quantities in aqueous washes can be treated in secondary biological WWTP before discharge to municipal treatment works.
