First-aid measures

General advice: Call a physician immediately.

If inhaled: IF INHALED: Remove to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. In case of lung irritation, first treatment with dexametason aerosol (spray). If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial respiration. Call a physician immediately.

In case of skin contact: Wash off immediately with plenty of water. Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Call a physician immediately.

In case of eye contact: In case of eye contact, remove contact lens and rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician immediately.

If swallowed: Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately.

Notes to physician:

Hazards: Inhaled corrosive substances can lead to a toxic oedema of the lungs.

Symptoms: Irritation and corrosion, cough, lachrymation, vomiting.

Treatment: Drink plenty of water. In case of lung irritation, first treatment with dexametason aerosol (spray). Treat symptomatically.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Carbon dioxide (CO2), dry powder, foam, water spray.

Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons: Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and spread fire.

Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or preparation itself, its combustion products, or released gases: Carbon oxides, Gaseous hydrogen chloride (HCl). PHOSGENE.

Special protective equipment for firefighting: Personal protection through wearing a tightly closed chemical protection suit and a self-contained breathing apparatus.

Additional information on fire-fighting: Keep containers and surroundings cool with water spray. Suppress (knock down) gases/vapours/mists with a water spray jet. Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into drains.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions: Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak. Use personal protective equipment. Wear respiratory protection. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing.

Environmental precautions: Prevent spreading over a wide area (e.g. by containment or oil barriers). Suppress (knock down) gases/vapours/mists with a water spray jet. Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system.

Methods for cleaning up: Contain spillage, and then collect with non-combustible absorbent material, (e.g. sand, earth, diatomaceous earth, vermiculite) and place in container for disposal according to local / national regulations (see Section "disposal considerations").

Handling and storage

This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH regulation Article 17(3) for on-site isolated intermediates and, in case the substance is transported to other sites for further processing the substance should be handled at these sites under the Strictly Controlled Conditions as specified in REACH regulation Article 18 (4). Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems is available at each Manufacturing site. Written confirmation of application of Strictly Controlled Conditions has been received from every affected Distributor and Downstream Manufacturer/User of the Registrant's intermediate.

Advice on safe handling: Open drum carefully as content may be under pressure. Do not breathe vapours or spray mist. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Use only explosion-proof equipment. Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition. Protect from moisture.

Advice on protection against fire and explosion: In the event of fire, cool tanks with water spray. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Use only in an area containing explosion proof equipment. Keep away from heat and sources of ignition.

Precautions: In use, may form flammable/explosive vapour-air mixture. Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition. Protect from moisture.

Storage space and container requirements: Keep in an area equipped with acid resistant flooring. Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place.

Storage specifications: Keep containers dry and tightly closed to avoid moisture absorption and contamination.

VCI storage category: 3A
