Substances of Very High Concern identification
Certain substances that may have serious and often irreversible effects on human health and the environment can be identified as Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs). REACH aims at ensuring that the risks resulting from the use of SVHCs are controlled and that the substances be replaced where possible.
A Member State, or ECHA on request of the European Commission, can propose a substance to be identified as an SVHC.
Public consultation
Anyone can comment or add further information related to the use, exposure, alternatives and risks of a proposed substance. Those most likely to be interested are companies, organisations representing industry or civil society, individual citizens, as well as public authorities.
Comments are welcomed from the EU or beyond.
The public consultation lasts for 45 days.
The submitting Member State or ECHA will respond to any comments and forward them to the Member State Committee, who will agree on the identification of the substance as an SVHC.
